Shimla: Vehicles registered outside Himachal Pradesh will now have to pay Green Tax for entering Shimla Municipal Corporation area. A notification in this regard has been issued by Corporation. As per the notification issued by the Commissioner, Shimla MC, the collection of Green Tax will start from 15 September 2016, but tax collection would take few days as the app for payment of tax is yet to be synchronised with the banks.
The corporation hopes to earn Rs 11-crore annually from Green Tax. The tax would be used to carry out developmental works in the state capital, especially for protection of environment, afforestation, beautification, parking spaces, toilets and other basic facilities.
Tax for various Vehichles
Rs 50 for two-wheelers
Rs 200 for small cars
Rs 300 for SUVs
Rs 500 for trucks
Vehicles which are exempted
The Vehicles of Central Government/ State Government and Defence will be exempted for paying Green Fee. The vehicles registered outside the state of HP but owned by of Himachali bonafied/domicile person shall also be exempted.

Fine for Violators
Any vehicle caught travelling without paying Green Tax will be imposed a penalty of Rs 5000.

Random checking of outside vehicles would be done at the parking lots and other places.
HPTDC mulling to offer discount for Green Tax payer
HP Tourism Development Corporation is considering a proposal that tourists paying green fees at Shimla and Manali and staying in HPTDC hotels will be allowed as discount on room tariff to the extent of green fee paid to avoid additional burden of fees on the guests.
